Black-figure plaque on white-ground that depicts Herakles, Iolaus and Athena. Some of the fragments were found beneath the foundations of the old Acropolis museum while some others were retrieved in November 1888 within the Persian fill.
Herakles and his charioteer Iolaus are on their quadriga moving to the viewer’s right. Behind the horses, in the background, stands Athena. Among the figures are painted the names ΕΡΑΚ[ΛΗΣ] ΙΟΛΕΟ[Σ] ΑΘΕΝΑΙΑ. Herakles wears chiton and over it lion-skin. Iolaus has on chiton too, as well as himation and an Attic-type helmet. Athena has her aegis over her other garments. The top of the plaque is adorned with meander.
